Remote Team Growing Fast? Is Your Onboarding Keeping Up?

As remote work is increasing, it is important to adapt onboarding so your employees still feel confident.

Recently, I worked with a remote-first company that’s adding new team members every month.

Their growth is exciting but after onboarding, new hires often felt unprepared to support customers.

As remote work becomes the norm, traditional onboarding rules don’t apply!

Gone are the days where you can show new hires the ropes, right from your desk. In healthcare, and with clinical teams especially, time is limited among other competing priorities.

So getting onboarding right matters more than ever.

Building a Scalable Training Journey

Across twenty years of work experience and many organizations, I’ve seen that successful onboarding for remote teams is built on two pillars: Process and Training.

1. Process

When thinking about the process ask yourself:

  • Do new hires know how to access the tools and information?

  • Can they get answers easily, without searching Slack or inboxes?

  • Is their job mapped out day one, so there’s less guesswork and stress?

Having a clear infrastructure and process is what makes new team members feel at ease and in control.

2. Training

Remote employees can often miss out on the informal coffee chat or “watch and learn” moments, so are you:

  • Helping them focus on what they need to do first, with clear steps and real-life scenarios?

  • Showing them the big picture on how their work fits with the company’s mission, team, and customers?

  • Making expectations easy to find, understand, and less confusing?

  • For clinical folks, is the training streamlined and respectful of their time so it’s truly useful?

Why Support and Community Matter

No one wants to feel left behind especially when working remotely.

A strong customer education program means every new hire knows where to turn for help.

Learning shouldn’t stop at onboarding.

When people feel supported, they work better, contribute more, and build customer relationships that support growth.

Until next time,
